But, this is not your normal race. Since we have 24 hours to get it done, we are doing it Formula One qualifying style! In other words, you are welcome to try your lap any time you want. In fact, you can try as many times as you wish.Simply pay $20 per 1 Mile run and $30 per 1 Lap run. You can pay your cash at the time of your lap, or prepay if you wish.The overall winner of the Mile gets $75 cash. The overall winner of the Lap gets $100 cash. There will be kids categories as well. Winners will be announced at the awards banquet at Sangria immediately following the event. We will keep a leaderboard for the event as the racers finish their timed Mile or Lap.So now you can run that special Lap or Mile in the day, the evening, late at night, early in the morning...whenever you want.Another first for the Hermosa 24 Ultramarathon. The Hermosa 24is this weekend starting June 18th at noon.The course starts at the Hermosa beach pier and will be a 24 hour party for spectators and grueling soft sand grind for dumb asses like myself.

For the past week I've had sand on the brain so I decided to conglomerate some pictures i took over the past year that show the beautiful course that the Hermosa 24 will be held on.
If I'm not barefoot chances are I have a pair of Luna Sandals on my feet.

I first fell in love with sandals while pacing at Badwater. I had only owned them for a few days before bringing them out to the desert as a novelty. I thought it might be nice to get some airflow in the 115 degree+ heat. Running in these extreme temperatures causes your feet to sweat profusely If you are wearing a socks in shoes that sweat is trapped and blisters on top of blisters may occur on top of your blisters :( . Going Barefoot is not an option either because the ground is usally over 150 degrees. What I thought may be just a mile or two ended up being over 40 my feet felt great and my love affair with Luna sandal's began.
Since that day the bulk of my racing has been in Luna sandals with race's over bridges, streets, mountains, and trails. I've covered distances from 5k to 50miles winning a few races here and there a long the way..
Attention Criminals do not leave your Luna sandals at the crime scene:
the more you where the sandal the more in takes on the characteristics of your feet. Each pair of sandal's become unique to your own feet.
My favorite thing about Luna sandals is how they become an extension of your body. The more you where them the more the sandal takes on the actual form of your foot. Unlike Vibrams where your foot and toes need to be a certain size Luna sandal's can fit anyone. Over time they actually get better!. When taken off your foot you can still see the unique mold that your foot has created. The original luna is by far my favorite. the way the neoprene bottom molds to the foot is far superior to Luna's immitators who sell do it your self kits with vibram cherry rubber (which I peosonally can't stand).

Taking my time to lace up my sandal makes the sandal feel like extension of my body.I look forward to the ritual of lacing up on race day. I do it with patience and care. I put my sandal's on to race! I do not race to put my sandal's on.
The Equus ss made out of very strong Shell Cordovan leather which allows them to be both the thinnest and most durable sandal Luna offers. I expect this pair to last at least ten years with vigorous use.

I do not race in them but could if I wanted to. The Equus was the first sandal introduced with elasticized leather laces, which allow me to slip on and off Luna's instantly. Much like the original they mold to your feet over time and are truly a beautiful sandal both on and off your feet.
Luna sandals is continually seeking out new recycleable materials to make there sandals out of.
Worried about the carbon footprint ?
In the future Luna hopes that the Recyclado will become their most affordable sandal. But that perfect material has still has yet to be found. The Ledville is currently the beefiest sandal Luna makes. It has the most aggressive tread on any Luna sandals (for now), it measures 10mm in thickness and comes with an extra wide leather lace. next month I am planning on hiking the tallest mountain in the continental United States in a pair.
This is some pretty need stuff. Perfect for average america than needs instant gratification once you tied it once you never need to tie it tie it again. It takes all of about 5 seconds to get your luna's on your feet and you are ready to go.

There is no right or wrong way to tie a Luna Sandal. I can only share what works for me. Have fun and think outside the box with the way you want to tie your sandal.

Luna sandals may not make you a faster runner ans they may not be the perfect footwear for every situation.
However,
they will put a smile on your face and make running a hell of lot more fun. I was one a big fan of Vibram Five Fingers but ever since switching over to Luna sandals I have had no desire to put anything else on my feet.
